Even if you have never been there, Las Vegas is one of those instantly recognizable places – familiar from countless TV shows and movies. The city attracts around 40 million visitors each year – around 100,000 of them choose to get married there. You can see Las Vegas on foot, but you should definitely think of hiring a car or limo to make your trip special, or for excursions out of the city.
McCarran International airport (LAS) is served by most domestic airlines as well as several foreign carriers. It’s conveniently situated just a few minutes drive from the south end of Las Vegas Boulevard – otherwise known as the Strip. In fact, the airport is so close, you could almost walk to some hotels such as the MGM Grand, the Tropicana and Luxor. If you are flying into the airport at night, make sure you have a window seat for the great view.
McCarran is a fairly small airport and easy to navigate. If you have arranged for a car or limo to meet you, your car will be waiting at the west side of the baggage claim area, outside door exits 7 to 13. Car service and and limo service can be pre-booked and also offer walk-up service; they serve not only Las Vegas, but the surrounding area as well – Laughlin, Lake Havasu and Henderson.
Because the airport is so close to the Las Vegas Strip, a car service in las vegas or limo is inexpensive – often cheaper than a taxi. If you are taking a limo from the airport, the price will depend on where your hotel is located. To go to one of the huge Strip hotels will cost about $6 one way; if you are staying further from the airport amid the neon of Fremont Street in downtown, a one way trip will run from about $8. For airport transfers, you may be in a van or shuttle bus, rather than an actual limo. Keep in mind that some limo companies also add an additional $5 security surcharge for airport trips.
Limo service is big business in Las Vegas – many limo companies offer tours of the Las Vegas Strip, with its spectacular hotels and dazzling neon lights. Highlights of the tour include the water show at the Bellagio, the show at Treasure Island and the erupting volcano outside the Mirage. Some tours take in Fremont Street as well, and the popular Fremont Street lightshow experience.
Some limo service companies specialize in wedding transport, bachelor party packages or trips to and from one of the many golf courses. Extras on the bachelor party tour might include free admission into one or more of the city’s clubs; while the bachelorette package might include free admission to an appropriate ladies only event. Make sure everyone in your party is over 21!
An hour’s rental typically starts at around $40 for a sedan; to rent a stretch limo will cost from between $60 and $100 an hour, depending on the number of passengers and the extras included. Limos in Vegas aren’t short on luxurious extras – expect to enjoy such touches as state of the art sound systems, bar and mirrored ceilings. And Las Vegas limo drivers are courteous and professional.
Las Vegas isn’t all gambling, weddings and nightlife – the city is also a popular venue for conventions. Around 6 million people annually hold their convention in the 3 million square feet Las Vegas Convention Center, or one of several smaller venues. In fact, there is an amazing 7 million square feet of meeting and convention space in and around the Strip. Taking a limo to your meeting is a great way to travel in style – or to impress your clients!
Companies also offer limo and car service to and from the smaller airports in North Las Vegas and Henderson. The airfield at North Las Vegas primarily caters to private planes and scenic tours. If you are in Las Vegas for a few days, consider a trip outside the city – popular day trip destinations include Hoover Dam, Red Rock Canyon and Lake Mead, a major recreation area.
But the most spectacular destination is to the Grand Canyon – one of the natural wonders of the world. There are several places to view the canyon from – the West Rim is the closest part of the canyon to Las Vegas; the South Rim is the most visited and boasts the most facilities for tourists. The North Rim is more remote but offers views that are just as spectacular.
Expect to pay anything between $100 and $600 per person for an escorted limo trip to the Grand Canyon, depending on the size of your group – but it’s worth every cent. Some limo tours include such extras as the Grand Canyon Skywalk, a helicopter sightseeing tour or a visit to an Indian reservation.
Even if you have no interest in gambling, Las Vegas is an amazing destination, whether you are visiting the city for business or pleasure. A limo ride can make your trip even more memorable.
